Petone's First 100 Years (1940)

Colgate Palmolive Limited.

Colgate Palmolive Limited, a company 34 years older than the history of civilisation in New Zealand, have made New Zealand's centennial year, the year of the opening of their modern factory in Petone, the 64th unit of their world-wide organisation.
This up-to-date building has now been completed, on land that was once the site of a Maori Pa. Within its walls are housed the very latest equipment that scientists and engineers have produced for the manufacture of fine soaps, toilet article preparations, shaving and dental preparations.
Though only now commencing to manufacture locally this world-famous organisation has been operating in New Zealand since 1925, and even before 1925 their products were sold extensively in this country.
In the last decade, however, expansion has been rapid, with the result that in 1937 plans were laid for the erection of a factory to employ, at the commencement, more than one hundred New Zealanders. These plans have now materialised, and Colgate Palmolive products are now being manufactured by New Zealanders to the same formulae and to the same standards of quality that have made the names Colgate and Palmolive famous throughout the world.
